edit: Latest software

Im loading a new laptop with the PL software. I clicked on your "Latest software" and downloaded the zip file to my lap top. What are my next steps, are my drivers already installed and thats all I need to do?

thats the manual installation method.

Most guys get the drivers installed in the normal fashion.

When you first plug the powerlogger into the laptop, and turn the key on, Windows will notice the new hardware. It will go thru the driver installation wizard twice, as there are 2 drivers that get installed.

Direct the wizard to the folder containing the new drivers.

WOW ! ! !

I have setup the PL software a few times and each I had issues and took several attempts to finally get the laptop communicating. I downloaded the lates software package for my new Windows 7 system and it went flawlessly. Went through the driver update twice and viola, PL was up and running.

Super sweet, thanks Bob for keeping our software up to date. Top notch hardware and software support !

Does the PL Windows 7 drivers folder replace the original folder or add to it?
I can't get the PL to install the drivers. I can successfully install PL but when open and vehicle turned on my laptop recognizes "new hardware" but wont install the driver. I tried to force them via "adding legacy hardware" as Bob stated in an early comment in this thread. But it didnt work.

Anyone have any ideas? Starting to hate this new laptop(having other unrelated issue) and Win7!

the drivers folder just goes in the PowerLogger folder, you can delete the old drivers folder if you want.

There are several guys running Win7, but I don't have much personal experience with it. I know that once you get the drivers in, it will work fine.

i'm not sure thats a driver issue.

replace your PLC.exe with this one and see if the error goes away.

With that version it says

Serial Error
Could not open port

I unchecked auto and tried each port manually with no luck. Bob if you want to PM not to screw up this thread feel free. I appreciate your help.

ok, that one is an indication that the drivers are not installed properly.

open up the device manager and see what's up in the ports and usb sections.
