Default Scanmaster malfunction

Bob,

I have an old 2.0 SM and it has worked fine for many years but here recently it started acting up. Turn key on, everything comes on looks good but after car starts I get various weird readings. Sometimes blank, no reading at all. Other times works perfectly. When it acts up is right after engine start. Thoughts?

That kind of thing is usually a connection problem.

does it act up when the cooling fan turns on?

strange

could be a connection or your ECM (or the scanmaster I suppose)

does your fan come on when you start the car? The fan control shares some circuits in the ECM with the datastream, so interference can happen.

No the fan does not come on when it starts. I think it might be the signal wire connection. I have it spliced into the orange wire out of the back of the ALDL with one of those crimp connectors and it may not be making a solid connection. I will redo that.

Thanks for your help!
